Electrical engineering grounded in design, construction, and real-world application.

My professional experience spans facility electrical engineering, electrical construction, aerospace and defense electrical systems, electrical safety, codes and standards, and technical leadership.

Today, my primary focus is facility electrical engineering. That work is informed by experience that extends beyond design and analysis into physical installation, testing, troubleshooting, construction administration, and the operation of complex electrical systems.

Electrical Engineer of RecordNorman, Oklahoma

University of Oklahoma First Year Student Housing

I served as Electrical Engineer of Record for an approximately 160,000-square-foot student-housing building consisting of five stories plus basement.

The building includes approximately 300 individual sleeping units along with apartments, common laundry, study and meeting spaces, a convenience store, and a large community storm shelter.

Electrical systems included a life-safety generator, emergency-lighting inverters and distribution, elevator and fire-pump loads, and optional standby power for other important building systems.

Electrical Engineer of RecordOklahoma City, Oklahoma

MAPS 4 Restoration Center

I served as Electrical Engineer of Record for this approximately 37,000-square-foot behavioral-health and crisis-intake facility.

The building includes medically supervised detox rooms, behavioral-health sleeping areas, individual and group therapy rooms, offices, meeting spaces, and a full commercial kitchen.

Life-safety lighting is supported by central inverters. The design also included optional standby generation capable of supporting the intake, detox, and short-term housing areas.

Electrical DesignElk City, Oklahoma

Elk City Fire Station & Police Station

My public-safety facility experience includes both a new fire station and a major renovation and addition to the city's police station.

The approximately 20,000-square-foot fire station includes apparatus bays, training areas, a decontamination room, commercial kitchen, sleeping and living areas, and Fire/EMS dispatch. Emergency generation and associated distribution were included in the design.

The police-station project included renovation and expansion of an approximately 14,000-square-foot facility, including complete replacement of the electrical and lighting systems. Spaces include detention cells, evidence storage and laboratory areas, offices, 911 dispatch, and municipal court. Emergency generation supports life-safety and mission-critical systems.

Electrical Engineer of RecordOklahoma City, Oklahoma

State of Oklahoma Kelley Building and Daycare

I served as Electrical Engineer of Record for the renovation of two interconnected five-story buildings totaling approximately 120,000 square feet.

The project included complete interior renovation and replacement of electrical systems. One building includes warm-shell space for future owner adaptation, while the second includes an operational daycare facility.

Emergency generation was designed to support emergency lighting, fire-pump loads, and elevators.

Electrical Engineer of RecordOklahoma City, Oklahoma

MAPS 4 Palomar Family Justice Center

I served as Electrical Engineer of Record for this three-story, approximately 74,000-square-foot multi-occupancy facility.

The building includes mental-health therapy spaces, law-enforcement and legal offices, forensic examination rooms, general offices, meeting spaces, kitchens, convenience-store space, warehousing, a coffee shop, and an urgent-care clinic.

Electrical systems include emergency generation, fire-pump power, and provisions for future photovoltaic integration.

Electrical Construction & Field Experience

I work on both sides of the drawings.

My electrical trade experience has developed alongside my engineering career.

I began working as an electrical apprentice in 2014, earned my residential journeyman license in 2020, and advanced to an Oklahoma Unlimited Electrical Journeyman license in 2022.

I primarily perform residential and light-commercial electrical work. That experience includes:

  • site surveys and evaluation of existing electrical systems
  • estimating
  • layout
  • installation of wiring methods, equipment, devices, and luminaires
  • single-phase and three-phase systems
  • NEC application
  • coordination with authorities having jurisdiction
  • electrical testing
  • troubleshooting and fault diagnosis

Working in both design and installation has given me direct appreciation for the difference between what works on a drawing and what works in a building.

Constructability, accessibility, sequencing, existing conditions, equipment geometry, workmanship, maintenance, and troubleshooting all matter.

The field has made me a better engineer, and engineering has made me a better electrician.

Electrical Safety & Professional Responsibility

The system has to be safe before anything else matters.

Electrical systems carry real consequences.

Engineering and installation decisions affect the people who construct systems, maintain them, operate equipment, respond during emergencies, and occupy the buildings those systems serve.

I take seriously the engineering profession's responsibility to hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public.

At Boeing, I served as a Boeing Designated Expert (BDE) for electrical products — Electrical Equipment Safety Assessor supporting multiple laboratory environments. My responsibilities included assessment of equipment and installations for requirements involving OSHA, UL 508A, and the National Electrical Code, including conductor sizing, overcurrent protection, and grounding and bonding.

That experience reinforced a principle that continues into my facility-engineering and field work: code compliance, protective systems, equipment ratings, grounding, bonding, workmanship, and careful technical review are not paperwork exercises. They exist because electrical systems must operate safely.

Aerospace & Defense Electrical Systems

Complex electrical systems beyond buildings

Before making facility engineering my primary professional focus, much of my engineering career was spent supporting aerospace and defense systems.

That experience moved progressively from software into electrical hardware, integration, wiring, and electrical power.

Embedded Avionics Software

I began my engineering career as a software engineering intern with Northrop Grumman developing embedded software for avionics processors and later worked full-time as an embedded avionics software engineer.

Laboratory Hardware & Systems Integration

I later transitioned into laboratory hardware design and integration. A major effort involved reverse engineering, redesigning, building, and integrating a test system for a quad-redundant flight-control-computer system across multiple software-integration laboratories.

My work included electrical power distribution, wiring, mechanical assemblies, printed wiring boards, interface hardware, and selection of vendor equipment.

Aircraft Wiring Design

At Boeing, I led aircraft wiring-design activities on multi-phase upgrade efforts. The work included:

  • wire size and type selection
  • protective-device selection
  • relays, switches, and connectors
  • voltage-drop considerations
  • multidisciplinary design coordination
  • certification documentation
  • technical-order and maintenance-manual wiring updates

Electrical Power Engineering

My aerospace work also included electrical-power engineering. Responsibilities included evaluation of available power-system capacity, preliminary studies of distribution-system modifications, generator-related architecture trade studies, and electrical power design for software/system integration laboratories.

Technical Leadership & Training

Helping others get the technical details right

A significant part of my current role extends beyond producing my own designs.

I am responsible for electrical technical training of designers and engineers at CEC and routinely serve as an internal technical resource when difficult questions arise involving electrical design, code interpretation, equipment application, or engineering practice.

At Boeing, I was formally trained and served as a Technical Lead Engineer (TLE), coordinating engineering work, resolving technical issues, reviewing designs, and helping other engineers develop sound technical solutions.

My responsibilities also include:

Guiding philosophy for technical mentorship

That is how I try to approach technical training and mentorship. Knowledge becomes more useful when it is shared, and explaining a subject clearly often improves my own understanding at the same time.

I particularly enjoy technical questions that require more than a quick answer: researching the requirement, checking the assumptions, understanding the underlying engineering, and communicating the conclusion clearly.

Codes & Professional Service

Understanding the requirement—and why it exists

Electrical codes are central to both my engineering and field work.

I am interested not only in what a requirement says, but why it exists, what problem it is intended to address, how it has changed, and how it should be applied in actual installations.

I previously served as chairman of the Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission Residential Electrical Technical Committee during review of the electrical portions of the 2021 and 2024 International Residential Code.

I currently serve as the voting engineer on the Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission (OUBCC) National Electrical Code Technical Committee (NECTC) reviewing public inputs and changes between the 2023 and 2026 editions of the NEC.

My career has taken me through software, electrical hardware, aerospace systems, construction, codes, electrical safety, and facility engineering. The common thread has always been electrical systems and the effort to understand them more completely.
